Endgame, Not I and other short plays by Samuel Beckett
Endgame was written during the “age of anxiety” of the cold war era between the former Soviet Union and the United States and is set in a post-apocalyptic world. The four characters live out what could prove to be their final days, each attempting to will themselves to live another day. Not I is a mad-woman’s monologue, where all that is seen in the dark of the stage is a mouth appearing out of the void, accompanied by a rush of words describing her plight. Other Beckett plays will also be included as part of the 2006 Year of Beckett Festival.
