When Gold Blossoms: Indian Jewelry from the Susan L. Beningson Collection

When Gold Blossoms: Indian Jewelry from the Susan L. Beningson Collection celebrates the dazzling beauty and awe-inspiring technical craftsmanship of Indian jewelry with more than 150 pieces spanning 2,000 years, primarily from South India. The title alludes to the preference for gold in South Indian jewelry—North Indian jewelry, on the other hand, is known primarily for the use of precious and semiprecious stones—as well as to the strong influence of nature on the designs, from ear studs in the form of a lotus to armbands featuring petal-and-leaf weaving. When Gold Blossoms includes spectacular rings, anklets, earrings, hair pendants, jeweled crowns, ivory combs, and an elaborate swing and a gold throne for a deity. Some of the pieces are worn in daily life, others dedicated to deities in Hindu temples. Photographs from the 19th and 20th centuries will be displayed alongside the jewelry to provide a fuller understanding of the ways in which jewelry is worn and used.

Judgement by Ferrol Sams

From one of the South’s best loved authors comes a hilarious tale that illuminates the human mind and spirit. Ruthie Lee is a true believer and does not take much of anything – including herself- too seriously. When she finds herself alone in church after services she shares stories of her community, pastors – past and present and herself. Ferrol Sams probes deeply into the irony, humor and fickleness of humankind and comes up with precious nuggets of universal truth. Judgment is adapted for the stage by Betty Cooper Hirt from the short story by Ferrol Sams.

Loot by Joe Orton

An upside down corpse, a bank robbery, two thieves, a slightly unhinged policeman and a glass eye... On the eve of his mother's funeral, a guy robs a bank with his friend while his mother's nurse, who has a penchant for murder, plots her eighth marriage to the dead woman's flora-obsessed husband. Add in a policeman, a large quantity of loot hidden in the coffin and the corpse in a wardrobe, and you have this edgy farce about greed, hypocrisy, and police brutality that is full of laughs, dark humor and wit. Mayhem and anarchy reign in this hilarious and shocking comedy by one of Britain’s funniest playwrights.
