Anne Frank in the World: 1929 – 1945 Exhibit

The largest of its kind in the world, this exhibit is a presentation of over 600 photographs and 8,000 words reminding visitors about the Holocaust through Anne Frank’s story. The exhibition chronicles the life of Anne Frank as told through her famous diary as the Nazi rise to power was unfolding around her. Combating bigotry, prejudice and hatred in today’s society are just some of the goals of this truly unique and moving exhibition housed in the DeKalb History Center located in the Old Courthouse on the Square in downtown Decatur.

Before and After Gauguin: The Art of Printmaking in Brittany, 1740 - 1940

This exhibition on view at the Oglethorpe University Museum of Art brings together over 100 prints by artists working in Brittany, in northwestern France, between 1740 and 1940. This exceptional exhibition of rare works comes from private collections in Brittany and represents this region's rich printmaking tradition that spans more than two centuries. In the late nineteenth century, the renowned French artist Paul Gauguin was drawn to the creative innovations of the artist colonies of Pont-Aven and Le Pouldu in Brittany, and despite the very short time he spent in each, he made a profound impact on the art of printmaking.

Daufuskie Island: Photographs by Jeanne Moutoussamy-Ashe

More than 60 black-and-white photographs taken from 1977 to 1981 provide a documentary-style glimpse into the daily life of the Gullah community that thrived on this barrier island off the coast of South Carolina. Invited into the community by the descendants of freed African slaves who had purchased the land from the original plantation owners, Jeanne Moutoussamy-Ashe found herself enraptured by the people of Daufuskie Island and recorded their lives through this emotional photography project, publishing the book Daufuskie Island in 1982.

Picturing Health: Norman Rockwell and the Art of Illustration
Organized by the Norman Rockwell Museum, this exhibit features original paintings by Norman Rockwell that inspired Americans to view themselves and their physicians with optimism, and presented the notion that health is affected as much by our emotional lives as by our physical well–being. The outstanding Rockwell paintings explore the doctor/patient relationship and the importance of physical fitness, health and healing across the generations. They are accompanied by original works exploring similar themes of health and well-being by twenty of today’s most prominent visual artists, including Georgia-based illustrators.

Cultivating America: Visions of the Landscape in Twentieth-Century Prints

American life, as experienced through the land, is the focus of this exhibition, located in the John Howett Works on Paper Study Room. Twenty-six works dating from 1928 to 1946 by eighteen artists will be on display. Their individual visions of the American landscape range in tone from the nostalgic to the heroic and celebratory to a grim realism. Each of the artists in this exhibition viewed the landscape as a key to the American character, a source of identity and an apt metaphor for the people who lived closely tied to it.

The Cocktail Hour

Stop by for The Cocktail Hour as John, a playwright, returns to his family's house, bringing with him a new play which he has written about them. His purpose is to obtain their permission to proceed with production, but his wealthy, very proper parents are cautious from the outset. There is also John's sister to contend with, although her reservations have to do with the fact that John has given her character such a minor role. Their confrontation takes place during the ritual of the cocktail hour, and while they seem shackled by the past, the ties which bind  prevail, converting pained resignation into cautious but hopeful anticipation.
